Mystery answer
Both cows and bulls tend to have beards and humps, so they are almost indistinguishable in the winter months before bulls begin to regrow their antlers. The best way to discern gender during this time is to check out the moose's backside -- which should be easy since the moose will want to walk or run away from you. The cow will have a brown patch over her backside, whereas the bull's rear end will be completely dark. (to see the mystery question, go to http://bearorchard.blogspot.com/.
